Nifas is the bleeding that follows childbirth. In Shia Jaʿfari fiqh it is a distinct category from hayd. Even though the worship implications overlap.
Worship in nifas
A woman in nifas:
- Does not pray and does not make the daily prayers up later.
- Does not fast, and does make missed Ramadan fasts up later as qada.
- Performs ghusl al-nifas when bleeding ends, before resuming prayer.
Where nifas ends
Per A. Sistani’s Islamic Laws, nifas has a maximum duration. Beyond that ceiling, continued bleeding is not nifas. It becomes istihada and the ritual cadence changes accordingly. The exact partition logic is one of the rules the Tuhr app handles internally; for your own situation, follow your marja’s office.
